Breast Reconstruction, Refinements & Finishing Touches: Follow-up
Updated: Oct 16, 2008
Future and Controversies
Some patients undergo immediate breast reconstruction with great results in contour, symmetry, and projection. The patient and surgeon are happy, and the only item remaining is to create a nipple-areolar complex. Even though some patients do not have such a satisfactory result initially, this emotional time in their lives has passed without complication, they have regained a female physique, the breast mound fills out clothing, and they may not want further surgery. Surgeons must respect the patient's wishes, and although the surgeon believes the reconstruction is not complete, the patient may feel otherwise. For those patients who can achieve some improvement in their reconstructed breast, this discussion provides some information in helping to achieve a great result.
