  • No specific laboratory studies need to be ordered for patients undergoing this procedure unless clinically indicated (ie, patients with history of easy bleeding or bruising should have coagulation parameters and platelets checked).

  • No specific imaging studies are required for this procedure. However, if concern exists as to the presence of an abdominal hernia, obtaining an ultrasound to exclude this diagnosis is prudent to avoid a potentially devastating bowel injury.
