Medicolegal Pitfalls

  • The diagnosis of gastric volvulus should be considered in patients presenting with abdominal or chest pain or with other vague GI complaints.
  • Erroneous diagnoses of myocardial ischemia, cholelithiasis, and pancreatitis are common.
  • Acute gastric volvulus can be lethal, and the diagnosis must not be overlooked.
