Outcome and Prognosis

The prognosis as determined by 5-year survival rate of treated squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsillar region is as follows:

  • Stage I - 80%
  • Stage II - 70%
  • Stage III - 40%
  • Stage IV - 30%

Some data suggest that patients treated for exophytic lesions tend to do a little better than patients treated for sessile lesions.
