Diagnostic Considerations

The following underlying causes should be considered in patients with metabolic alkalosis:

  • Liddle syndrome
  • Primary aldosteronism
  • Hyperglucocorticoidism
  • Deoxycorticosterone (DOC) excess syndrome
  • Gastric fluid losses
  • Potassium depletion
  • Congenital chloride diarrhea
