- Author: Latha Chandran, MBBS, MD, MPH; Chief Editor: Andrea L Zuckerman, MD more...
Further Outpatient Care
- A follow-up examination 4-6 weeks after repair is recommended to ensure that scar tissue has not caused a recurrence of obstruction. A follow-up study among 42 women who have had laparoscopic exploration and resection of the vaginal septum found that the reproductive performance was comparable to that following the treatment of the associated uterine anomaly.[8]
Complications
- Hematocolpos
- Hematometra
- Pyohematocolpos
- Pyohematometra
- Urinary retention, hydronephrosis (rare)
- Postoperative recurrence of obstruction
- Constipation
- Abdominal mass
Prognosis
- Prognosis is excellent, and full recovery is typical.
