Conditions to consider in the differential diagnosis of salicylate poisoning include the following:

  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome

  • Caffeine toxicity

  • Pulmonary embolism

  • Schizophrenia

  • Sepsis and septic shock [15]

  • Chlorine gas toxicity

  • Ethylene glycol toxicity

  • Hydrocarbon toxicity

  • Iron toxicity

  • Organophosphate and carbamate toxicity

  • Theophylline toxicity
