Class Summary

These agents may be useful to control the acute phase.

Dapsone (Avlosulfon)

Dapsone is bactericidal and bacteriostatic against mycobacteria; the mechanism of action is similar to that of sulfonamides, with which competitive antagonists of PABA prevent formation of folic acid, inhibiting bacterial growth. The anti-inflammatory mechanism of action may be related to inhibition of halide-myeloperoxidase system of neutrophils.
