Diagnostic Considerations

Confirming the diagnosis of a bedbug bite sometimes is difficult. Obtain a detailed history of the home environment, work conditions, and presence of domestic animals.

Also consider papular urticaria [30] and the bites of botflies, [31] and watch for and treat any secondary bacterial infection. Transmission of trypanosomiasis or hepatitis B is possible and might be considered in appropriate settings.

Targetoid or edematous plaques may require distinction form erythema multiforme and Sweet syndrome. [28]
