Guidelines Summary

The SCORAD (Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis) Index, published in 1993 in Dermatology, characterizes the extent and severity of atopic dermatitis based on surface area involved, intensity of erythema, edema, oozing/crusting, excoriation, lichenification and dryness, as well as subjective symptoms of pruritis and sleep loss. [4] This scoring system shows a normal distribution of the population studied, and uses a mathematical weighing system of the signs/symptoms, such that extent and subjective symptoms account for about 20%, whereas intensity items represent 60%, of the total score.
