Diagnostic Considerations

Ocular oscillations that mimic nystagmus include the following:

  • Ocular flutter

  • Opsoclonus

  • Ocular bobbing

  • Ocular dysmetria

  • Superior oblique myokymia

  • Square wave jerks

  • Voluntary nystagmus

  • Convergence-retraction nystagmus associated with the dorsal midbrain syndrome
