Guidelines Summary

For patients with suspected ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS), carotid Doppler is the first-line test to confirm the diagnosis. Referral to a primary care doctor or cardiologist is recommended, since ocular ischemic syndrome is the first manifestation of carotid disease in 69% of patients, and early identification can prevent heart attack, stroke, or death.
