Guidelines Summary

Management guidelines are based on symptoms and extent of visual impairment at presentation. If there is no immediate threat to vision, medical therapy is recommended. In the event of an immediate threat to visual function, a temporary CSF draining procedure (ie, placement of a lumbar drain) is immediately performed, and a definitive surgical plan is made; either a ventriculoperitoneal shunt or optic nerve sheath fenestration.
