Diagnostic Considerations

Problems to be considered in the differential diagnosis of preseptal cellulitis include the following:

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma

  • Retinoblastoma [13]

  • Orbital pseudotumor (idiopathic orbital inflammation) [14]

  • Periocular tinea [15]

  • Herpes simplex

  • Herpes zoster

  • Ruptured dermoid cyst

  • Cerebrospinal fluid leakage (eg, following trauma)
