Diagnostic Considerations

Cardiac myxomas are rare benign neoplasms with symptoms that may mimic those of other disorders. Most occur sporadically; a relatively small proportion is part of Carney complex syndrome. [3]

Differentials in Carney complex include the following:

  • Intracardiac thrombus
  • Metastatic neoplasm to the heart
  • Breast adenoma/carcinoma
  • Testicular adenoma/carcinoma
