Hypertension Medication for Specific Comorbidities

Indications and medications are as follows:

  • Heart failure: Thiazide, beta blocker, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB)

  • Diabetes: ACEI

  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD): ACEI, ARB

  • Post–myocardial infarction: Beta blocker, ACEI

  • Atherosclerosis: ACEI

  • Angina: Beta blocker

  • Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) risk: Thiazide, beta blocker, ACEI, calcium channel blocker (CCB)
