Guidelines Summary

The IDSA recommends amoxicillin-clavulanate as empiric therapy for treatment of human bite wounds. Ampicillin-sulbactam is an alternative that can be administered intravenously. In patients who are unable to tolerate beta-lactam antibiotics, moxifloxacin is recommended. If moxifloxacin is unavailable, another quinolone such a ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin can be combined with metronidazole. [15]
