Cefazolin

First-generation semisynthetic cephalosporin that arrests bacterial cell wall synthesis, inhibiting bacterial growth. Based on general surgical procedures, the suggested recommended dose is a 2-g prophylactic dose for women who weigh >80 kg (175 lb), with an increase to 3 g for those who weight >120 kg (265 lb). Another suggested option is to repeat the dose in 4 hours.
