Diagnostic Considerations

Occupational lung disease

Pneumoconiosis

Reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS) is "an asthma-like syndrome that persists for longer than 3 months and occurs within minutes to hours after a single exposure to a high concentration of a respiratory irritant." [15]  This condition was first described by Brooks et al. [16, 17]

Bioterrorism and lung disease

The differential diagnosis includes many diseases. The length of exposure, the type of chemical, and the temporal relationship with symptoms must all be included in the occupational history. Financial compensation is an important issue in occupational disease.
