Diagnostic Considerations

In patients with suspected coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (CWP) (black lung disease), it is important to rule out other causes for lung disease, especially if there has been less than 10 years of exposure to coal mine dust. The differential diagnosis includes mycobacterial infection, silica-associated granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and other interstitial pneumonias. [1]
