Diagnostic Considerations

Conditions to consider in the differential diagnosis of lightning injury include the following:

  • Intracranial hemorrhage

  • Seizure

  • Cardiorespiratory arrest

  • CNS injury or stroke

  • Autonomic nervous system injury

  • Peripheral nervous system injury

  • Blunt and explosive trauma

  • Musculoskeletal injury

  • Acoustic injury

  • Barotrauma
