Diagnostic Considerations

Other problems to be considered in the differential diagnosis include the following:

  • Antimalarial toxicity (eg, chloroquine, primaquine)

  • Central nervous system depressant toxicity

  • Chloral hydrate toxicity

  • Intrinsic cardiac disease (other causes of conduction disturbances, dysrhythmias, hypotension)

  • Intrinsic neurologic disease (other causes of seizures, altered mental status)

  • Serotonin syndrome

  • Withdrawal from ethanol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates
