Diagnostic Considerations

As with any ingestion, consider co-ingestions, especially those that are potentially serious and treatable (eg, tricyclic antidepressants, acetaminophen). Consider all possible causes for altered mental status, including infectious diseases such as meningitis and encephalitis.
