Diagnostic Considerations

Noncardiogenic pulmonary edema due to diphosgene (DP) must be distinguished from noncardiogenic pulmonary edema due to other causes. Features in the history that suggest DP include the following:

  • Mass casualties
  • A terrorist or military attack
  • Gas exposure
  • Delayed onset of pulmonary edema following symptom onset
