Diagnostic Considerations

Many infectious, neoplastic, and autoimmune processes can affect the ear. Problems to be considered include the following:

  • Langerhans cell histiocytosis

  • Neoplasia

  • Foreign body

  • Cholesteatoma

  • Sigmoid sinus thrombosis

  • Brain abscess

  • Otitic hydrocephalus

  • Extradural abscess

  • Meningitis

  • Tuberculosis

  • Petrositis

  • Labyrinthitis

  • Wegener Granulomatosis
