Diagnostic Considerations

Torticollis can occur in a wide range of disorders. In a study of 20 children, Tumturk et al found torticollis was associated with craniospinal pathologies in 8 patients and with an osseous origin in 5. Other subjects demonstrated muscular torticollis (2 patients), ocular pathology (1 patient), Sandifer syndrome (1 patient), paroxysmal torticollis (1 patient), and retropharyngeal abscess (1 patient).
