Diagnostic Considerations

Because Proteus syndrome is rare and characteristic features develop over time, misdiagnosis is a possibility. [10] Other conditions to consider include the following:

  • Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis
  • Hemihyperplasia lipomatosis syndrome
  • Congenital lipomatous overgrowth, vascular malformations, and epidermal nevi (CLOVE) syndrome
